“See the youth in ghetto black…”

Friday, 2007 March 30 4:51 PM CDT — Siloam Springs, Arkansas UNITED STATES

I know that it's a random thought, but why is the study of literature bundled in with the study of English? They really have nothing to do with each other. There is more literature written in other languages than English. Why should schools and universities that teach literature limit themselves to only English literature?

Interesting thought. In literature classes we do read literature from other cultures and languages, but just in English. It doesn't mean that we aren't losing something by not reading them in the original, but we do read other works regardless.

On a totally different note, how have things gone this week? You've done a good job of laying low; except for that very brief moment yesterday afternoon on the quad, I haven't seen you since Monday.

“…stemming gold to make ends meet.”

Tuesday, 2007 March 27 6:20 PM CDT — Siloam Springs, Arkansas UNITED STATES

Today, I was once again blessed with the wonderfulness that is the beauty of Siloam Springs. With the season of spring in full swing, I was delighted to see the leaves on the trees once again.

This means that it's time to supplement visual beauty with aural beauty again. That's means that I need to pick up guitar strings, but they're so expensive down here.

“…on the ones who dare not tell.”

Sunday, 2007 March 25 12:04 AM CDT — Siloam Springs, Arkansas UNITED STATES

I've been told by various people that there are some seventy or so churches here in Siloam Springs.1 I didn't believe it until recently when my license expired,2 and I was forced to walk to and from the various places in town that I needed to get to. There are so many churches here in so many various places that you could hardly steal a loaf of bread from someone's house without being able to cross the street to a church to confess of your crime.

Anyway, all that to say that I find it odd that with so many churches in a town such as this, I don't go to a single one. Why is that? Is that because I haven't decided whether or not I'm a catholic or an episcopal or a pentecostal or is it just because I don't want to wake up on a Sunday morning?

“See the man who puts the collar…”

Thursday, 2007 March 22 1:05 AM CDT — Siloam Springs, Arkansas UNITED STATES

I think that it's odd what kind of things can make a man think of certain things. For me, it's certain songs, smells or just types of weather that make me think of times past. Right now, I'm missing the time where I was a sauté cook buried back in a kitchen somewhere. Right now, I'd give just about anything to have my old, barely minimum-wage job.

On an unrelated note, I need to watch what I say. Whatever I say could be misinterpreted by some two-bit schmuck or psycho-analysed by some two-bit schmuck psychologist.

“See the man who buys and sells.”

Wednesday, 2007 March 14 1:32 AM CDT — Siloam Springs, Arkansas UNITED STATES

I used to be really sad whenever the thought of graduating from college came up, but now, I'm starting to think that I'll be ready for the day when it comes. College used to be an amazing time, but, lately, I've just come to realise that there's nothing to show for what I've gained from college so far. I wish that I could just fast forward the next year and a half because I have a feeling that it won't be that eventful.

I hope that I'm wrong.

I think that's for you to decide, Dan. This year and 1/4 does not have to be a burden, but neither does it have to be a joy. It has the potential to be either one, and I'm a firm believer that you have to be the one to decide how it is. It's something that I'd like to talk about more with you...sometime. If you want to.

I'm sure there is SOMETHING to show for it. I had a friend once that said that JBU was just an expensive college playground…I have to disagree, it was the most formative four years of my life. If there is any reason why I'm me is because of JBU! Love ya! In good times and bad.

I am convinced that if you put thirty of us college-age men some place far removed from any women who would provide a calming effect, we would definitely blow ourselves up.
