“What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”

Friday, 2008 October 24 8:48 AM MDT — Denver, Colorado UNITED STATES

Okay, Christmas is rapidly approaching; it will be here before we know it. In the radio industry we're already preparing for it.

Truth be told, I hate the popular, modern Christmas music. No, it's not because of any stupid theological reason or some belief that Santa distracts from the true meaning of the holiday or any crap like that. Just think about this: what would you rather listen to: carols and hymns that are quite possibly ten centuries old sung by cathedral choirs in such a beautiful reverence of tradition or Barbra Streisand on crack singing “Jingle Bells”?

Quote to ponder: “Oh look, yet another Christmas TV special! How touching to have the meaning of Christmas brought to us by cola, fast food, and beer… Who'd have ever guessed that product consumption, popular entertainment and spirituality would mix so harmoniously?” — Bill Watterson

“We're all here; we've all got dates…”

Is there anything that I could possibly write about that would be worth the time to move my fingers across the keyboard?

Forgive me for being pessimistic about the election, but here's the way that I see it:

  • If I vote for Barak Obama, I'm making a terrible choice.
  • If I vote for John McCain, I'm making a terrible choice.
  • If I vote for a third-party candidate and virtually throw away my vote, I'm making a terrible choice.
  • If I don't vote at all, I'm making a terrible choice.1

So, essentially, I have to make whatever terrible choice that I can live with or the terrible choice that's the least painful. I still haven't registered to vote, and I still have an hour left to register.

I've made my terrible choice. I'm going to bed.

  1. Of course, in the minds of some people, if I don't vote, I give up my right to complain. Then again, if I vote simply so that I can complain, that would be dumb.

Quote to ponder: “If God wanted us to vote, he would have given us candidates.” — Jay Leno

Indeed Dan - voting is all about choosing the lesser of two (or more) evils.

I whole-heartedly agree. Which is why I didn't do early voting today like planned.
