Why is it that when a bicyclist falls off of his bicycle, gets severely injured but returns to bicycling, he's considered some sort of hero who overcomes defeat and perseveres? Shouldn't he an idiot who continues to put himself at risk for climbing onto a fast, moving contraption that can't even stay balanced on its own? If he's not, why wouldn't it be perseverance when after a person gets injured, he continues his own hobby whether it's bicycling or… say firebreathing?

You're right that Pearl Harbor was 1941. I was actually referring to the infamous day that a Honda motorcycle beat a Kawasaki—this is a slightly less known, although still significant historical event.
