Apparently, over in the Indian state of Orissa, there's been a huge uproar against the Christian population of the state. Word makes its way back to the United States were we heard about the persecution and saw pictures of the result. Most of them were photographs of churches that had been burned down. Included in those were pictures of images of Christ that had been desecrated by the rioters. Any Christ-loving Christian should have seen pictures like that and been shocked in horror at the sight of the image of their Saviour destroyed in the manner that they were destroyed in. I wasn't though. The thought that went through my head at that moment was really something along the lines of “how appropriate”.

Really, when you think about it, what was Christ's reason for becoming incarnate? He came to suffer an incredible death upon that detestable crucifix. Here we have an image that serves as a symbol of Christ. Consider how ironic it is that people who despise Him would substantiate that symbolism by substantiating their hatred.
While I pondered this, I thought of myself. After all, it was my sins that drove the nails into the wrists of Christ just as much as those that we consider lost. With all of this in mind, the only thing that I could really say was a request of God almighty: “Lord, have mercy.”
Father, we have seen photographs and heard accounts of those who have desecrated Your image. Despite the terrible defiance towards Your Son that occurred at the hand of those who despise You, Father, it was my transgressions that nailed Him to that cross just as much as those who detest You. In spite of our showing hatred towards You, You have showed us love. In that love, Father, please have mercy.
Lord, have mercy
on them.Christ, have mercy
on us.Lord, have mercy
on me.
